2025 YOUNG FILMMAKERS STORY CONFERENCE

Students from across the state are invited to join professional filmmakers for THE YOUNG FILMMAKERS STORY CONFERENCE on Friday, Oct. 17, from 10a-11:30a at the AFROSOUTH FILM FESTIVAL at the Meeting Street Visitors Center in Charleston. The program is part of AfroSouth’s Kreative Kitchen, a day long series of programming for young artists and entrepreneurs.

Participants will have the opportunity to pitch their short film ideas to a panel for feedback. These could be stories for this year’s S.C. Young Filmmakers Project, or any project they’re working on or thinking about.

Students will view samples and receive pointers on how to best “pitch” their concept, including presenting their story, their main characters, their style, and how they’ll technically execute it. Staff was also on hand to provide more information on the contest. (Get more info on the S.C. YOUNG FILMMAKERS PROJECT here.)

The program is an ideal field trip for teachers and students incorporating Media Arts in their curriculum. Reach out to Brad Jayne at brad@indiegrants.org with questions and for assistance.

Register to attend below. The event is free and open to the public. Guests are welcome.

For any students who wish to pitch, they should be prepared to:

  • Verbally describe their concept for their Young Filmmakers entry in 2-3 minutes, including how they’ll incorporate the required prop (a megaphone). Or story concept for another project they might be working on.

  • This should include their, their main characters, and their style.

  • Think about how they’ll technically execute the project (camera, locations, cast, music, etc.).

More information on the pitching process will be provided to registrants before the event.
