WHAT ARE INDIE GRANTS?
In the summer of 2010, the South Carolina Film Commission founded the INDIE GRANTS with Trident Technical College. The structure and goals of the program are simple: Fund and produce short films by South Carolina filmmakers, approach production structure and strategy as if it was a large feature or episodic program(including crewing it with highly-qualified production professionals), and have Trident Tech film students work under the professionals as hands-on technical training. Resulting in industry exposure for the state’s film community and training the next generation of South Carolina crew.
All funded filmmakers are required to use Trident Technical College film students in their crews. As a technical college, TTC focuses on the technical aspects of production, consistently feeding Camera Assistants, Grips, Electricians and other crew into the professional production community. The opportunity to work under established professionals is essential to the training of TTC students, and also serves as networking and bridge to employment.
Other resources provided to INDIE GRANTS filmmakers throughout the process include equipment, mentoring, professional script consulting, professional crew calls, collaborative critiques, and film festival consulting.
The program has resulted in 27 high-quality, intriguing short films; South Carolina cinematic skills and stories celebrated by the world. Official film festival selections and awards include the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award, Palm Springs Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, Stiges Film Festival, LA Film Fest, Slamdance Film Festival, FantasticFest, Mediera Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival, Cucalorus Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Santa Rosa International Film Festival, and more.
